At least 40 cases of hepatitis A have been connected to frozen strawberries served at Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations across Virginia, state officials said Tuesday. According to the Virginia Department of Health, the outbreak appears to stem from potentially contaminated Egyptian-sourced berries that were pulled from all 96 store locations in the state around the first week of August. Hepatitis A symptoms can take as many as 50 days to emerge, so health officials warn that more cases may turn up in coming weeks.
