Melissa Joan Hart Joins Gary Johnson Campaign as Connecticut Chair
SABRINA THE LIBERTARIAN
Melissa Joan Hart, star of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Melissa & Joey, and Christian-right drama God’s Not Dead 2, has just been appointed the Connecticut chairwoman of the 2016 presidential campaign of Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson.
“I want to break away from this two-party system and I think it’s important for people to know that there’s another candidate out there who really toes the line between Democrat and Republican,” Hart, who has a residence in Connecticut, told People. “I mean he’s libertarian. But socially he’s liberal, but fiscally conservative … [Johnson] was on a border state, so if you want to talk about immigration, he’s the guy.”
Hart, who has previously identified as a Republican and backed Mitt Romney in the 2012 election, personally contacted the Johnson campaign this year to see if she could pitch in. (Johnson was also on the ballot in 2012.)
“She reached out to us, and the governors are of course delighted and proud to have her on board,” Joe Hunter, spokesman for Johnson-Weld 2016, told The Daily Beast.
“I always said I wouldn’t vote for a party, I would vote for the person that was the best for the job... and I think I found him,” the 40-year-old actress posted to Instagram on Wednesday morning. “@govgaryjohnson #voteFORsomeone not against one. My hope is that sometime in my lifetime we can be more than a 2- party country.”
