American Muslims in eight U.S. states claim they were questioned by the FBI over the weekend and that the agents were seeking information about a threat from al Qaeda in the days leading up to the election. The Council on American Islamic Relations said the questions pertained to potential pre-election terror attacks and that the individuals who were targeted were not connected to each other or any alleged threats. Lawyer Hassan Shibly said his clients were youth-group leaders and wealthy doctors who just happened to be Muslim. “The FBI actions... to conduct a sweep of American Muslim leaders the weekend before the election is completely outrageous and... borderline unconstitutional,” Shibly said. “That’s the equivalent of the FBI visiting churchgoing Christians because someone overseas was threatening to blow up an abortion clinic. It’s that preposterous and outrageous.”
