Tyler Armstrong, at only 12 years old, has a mission to change the world. Tyler wants to be the youngest person ever to climb the Seven Summits (the highest mountains of each of the seven continents), a tremendous feat in itself, but he has something bigger in mind: helping those afflicted with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He’s dedicated his climbing efforts to raise awareness and money for this great cause. L.L.Bean believes a life lived outdoors enriches the spirit, and Tyler’s courage and tenacity speaks to the truth of that belief—characteristics fostered in Tyler by his father and their shared love of spending time together in the great outdoors.
To support them in their cause, and in their desire to help others, L.L.Bean has outfitted Tyler and his father for several of their climbs, including those on Mt. Denali and Mt. Kosciuszko. The company also invited the Armstrongs to the L.L.Bean campus to provide valuable feedback about their products. L.L.Bean has always been adamant about not only thoroughly testing their products, but also receiving and responding to feedback they get from their product testers. Tyler and his dad, with their experiences in some of the most rigorous, challenging conditions on the planet, are just the type of customers whose feedback L.L.Bean can use in their ongoing mission to support lives lived outdoors. That’s L.L.Bean’s mission, and they’ll be with Tyler every step of the way.
