Ivanka Trump sat in on Donald Trump’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday, the real-estate mogul’s first meeting with a foreign leader as president-elect. Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, were spotted in photographs of the 90-minute meeting released by the Japanese government, raising concerns about Donald Trump’s ability to keep firm boundaries in place when he runs the White House. Ivanka’s presence at the meeting comes after reports of Trump’s team seeking security clearances for his children. No official explanation for Ivanka’s attendance has been provided, and it remains unclear what the topic of discussion was. But both Trump and Abe had only good things to say after the chat at Trump Tower. Trump took to Facebook to post: “It was a pleasure to have Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stop by my home and begin a great friendship.” Abe told reporters the two men had met “in a very warm atmosphere” to have a “very candid talk.” “As an outcome of today’s discussions, I am convinced Mr Trump is a leader in whom I can have great confidence,” Abe said.
