Former Milwaukee police officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the shooting of 23-year-old Sylville Smith. The district attorney announced the charge on Thursday. Smith was shot on the afternoon of Aug. 13, and police have said body camera footage revealed that he was armed and turning toward Heaggan-Brown, who in response opened fire. The 24-year-old officer was accused in October of raping an intoxicated man and charged in a separate sexual assault and prostitution case. He was fired from the police department two weeks later.
