The day after the Electoral College officially voted for Donald Trump to become the 45th president of the United States, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called out a rogue elector on social media. “You’re Fired!!!” Abbott wrote on Twitter, tagging Christopher Suprun, who had published an opinion piece in The New York Times this month, titled “Why I Will Not Cast My Electoral Vote for Donald Trump.” In it, the Republican elector wrote, “I watch Mr. Trump fail to unite America and drive a wedge between us.” He continued, “He does not encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage.” Weeks later, Suprun wrote a similar column for The Hill, in which he declared he would vote for Ohio Gov. John Kasich. On Monday, he did, in fact, vote for Kasich in the Texas Capitol. In response to Abbott’s public call-out, evidently over a position unrelated to his elector post, Suprun responded: “You mean I resigned”—and then “PS Does this mean I can release tapes of your staff ignoring threats against Presidential Electors?”
