Police in Brazil said a body found in a burned-out vehicle in Rio de Janeiro belongs to Greek Ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis, who has been missing for three days, and have named his wife and a Rio police officer as suspects. Authorities believe Amiridis’ wife, Francoise Oliveira, was having an affair with the police officer, 29-year-old Sergio Moreira. Reuters reported that investigators believe Oliveira asked Moreira to kill Amiridis, and that Moreira has confessed to the crime. Both individuals, in addition to a third suspect, were taken into custody. The license plates on the charred white vehicle matched those from Amiridis’s rental car, according to a report by TV channel Globo. The 59-year-old was last seen Monday, but his wife reported him missing Wednesday, according to local media. Amiridis was supposed to return from vacation on Jan. 9. He was Greece’s ambassador to Libya for four years, beginning in 2012. He accepted the top Rio post last year.
