Texas executed a convicted murderer on Thursday, making him the second prisoner put to death this year in the state and the third nationally. Terry Edwards, 43, had robbed a Texas Subway shop in 2002, stole $3,000, and killed two employees during the commission of the crime. Multiple appeals filed on Edwards' behalf failed. His attorneys had asked magistrates to reopen his case under the argument that a court-appointed attorney earlier in his case had abandoned him, providing insufficient legal assistance. Edwards killed Tommy Walker, 34, and Mickell Goodwin, 26. Witnesses reported that they saw Edwards dump a .38-caliber handgun in a trash can across the street from the Subway. He was arrested the same day and found with $3,000 that had gone missing from the store.
