Esteban Santiago, the 26-year-old man accused of fatally shooting five people and injuring six others at Fort Lauderdale—Hollywood International Airport earlier this month, pleaded not guilty on Monday to all 22 charges. U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Seltzer read the indictment out loud, naming each of the five victims who were killed. According to the Sun Sentinel, Santiago spoke in a monotone voice and “appeared calm.” Santiago opened fire in the baggage claim area of the airport after his flight arrived in Fort Lauderdale. He faces the death penalty or life behind bars if he is convicted.
