Vice President Mike Pence reportedly wasn’t informed of the U.S. Justice Department’s warning about ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s phone calls with the Russian ambassador until nearly two weeks after the White House and the president were informed. According to NBC News sources—one allegedly close to the vice president, the other inside the Trump administration—Pence was told on Feb. 9—11 days after the president was warned, via counsel, by then-Acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates—that Flynn had not been completely forthcoming in telling the VP he did not discuss sanctions with the Russian official. The VP appeared Jan. 15 on CBS’s Face the Nation to defend Flynn and reiterate what the national security adviser had told him—that he never discussed the sanctions. Flynn resigned Monday evening, and presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway claimed that Flynn “misleading” Pence was what led to the adviser’s departure.
