Princess Cristina of Spain, the 51-year-old sister of King Felipe VI, was cleared in her fraud trial Friday of helping her husband evade taxes. The case began in 2010 and has significantly damaged the image of the Spanish royal family. Princess Cristina is sixth in line to the throne, and her husband Inaki Urdangarin was convicted on charges of embezzlement, fraud, and tax evasion. He must serve a six-year, three-month jail term. He was accused of using royal connections to help generate business income that he later used for private spending. King Felipe stripped Cristina and Urdangarin of their titles of Duke and Duchess of Palma de Mallorca, and Princess Cristina must pay a fine for civil responsibility, despite the fact that she was cleared in the case.
