A 22-year-old British tourist was raped and held captive for two months in the Australian Outback, police said Tuesday. Queensland police reportedly rescued the woman when they pulled her over and noticed she had injuries to her face. They then discovered a 22-year-old man hiding in the back of the vehicle, the Associated Press reported, citing police officials. The pair had met months earlier in Cairns, but things took an ugly turn in January after the man began to brutalize the woman during an 870-mile road trip to the Outback. Police said the woman, who has not been identified, was subjected to a series of assaults in various locations. She was treated for facial fractures, cuts, and bruising. The man has been charged with a slew of violent crimes, including rape, assault, and strangulation. He also faces various drug charges and a charge for holding the woman against her will.
