According to a report in The New York Times, a landslide that ripped through a garbage dump near Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, on Saturday killed at least 35 people and left several dozen missing. Most of the people who died were women and children according to Dagmawit Moges, a spokeswoman for the Addis Ababa city government. It's not clear what exactly caused the landslide at Koshe Garbage Landfill, which has been used to dump the capital's garbage for more than 50 years. People at the landfill were reportedly scavenging items to help make a living for themselves and others lived for affordable housing.
