The Department of Justice has requested an extension to produce evidence in support of President Donald Trump’s claim that the Obama administration ordered wiretaps against him. Lawmakers in the House Intelligence Committee had previously asked the department to submit evidence in support of Trump’s claim by Monday. But with the deadline nearly passed, the department is asking for more time. “This afternoon, the Department of Justice placed calls to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to ask for additional time to review the request in compliance with the governing legal authorities and to determine what if any responsive documents exist,” Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement Monday.
