Sen. Lindsey Graham on Wednesday said that if Congress does not hear from FBI Director James Comey today about whether the agency is actively investigating President Trump’s alleged Russia ties, his Senate Judiciary subcommittee on crime and terrorism will subpoena for answers. Graham and the top Democrat on the subcommittee, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, previously sent a letter to the FBI asking for information on such investigations. “Only thing you can be assured of is that if they don't answer my letter, I think the committee as a whole will subpoena the documents,” Graham told The Daily Beast on Wednesday, “and I will stay on them to disclose to us whether there's a criminal investigation because Congress should not be in the dark on this.” On the scope of his subcommittee’s own probe, Graham added: “We’re trying to make the case that Russia has a modus operandi of interfering with democracies and describing the tools in their toolbox. That's what today is about… an effort to expose what Russia does.”
