Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Thursday that she can’t support the House Republican health-care overhaul that is being debated in Congress. “This is not a bill I could support in its current form,” Collins told the Press Herald in a phone interview. “It really misses the mark.” Collins cited the recent estimates from the Congressional Budget Office that claimed millions of Americans would lose coverage with the bill in its current form. “This bill doesn’t come close to achieving the goal of allowing low-income seniors to purchase health insurance,” Collins said. Since its introduction, the bill has faced major opposition, with even House Speaker Paul Ryan recently acknowledging it wouldn’t pass in its current form.
