A U.S. Navy SEAL is under investigation for allegedly moonlighting as a porn star. Media reports identified the SEAL as Navy Chief Special Warfare Officer Joseph John Schmidt III, a Coronado-based officer who has racked up numerous awards and honors in his 23-year military career. Citing marketing materials and Schmidt’s wife, the San Diego-Union Tribune reported that the decorated officer goes by the porn name Jay Voom. He has allegedly performed in porn videos with his wife, Jewel Jade, as well as alongside other actresses, the report said. A spokesman for the SEALs confirmed the investigation to the newspaper. “We have initiated a formal investigation into these allegations. There are very clear regulations which govern outside employment by (Naval Special Warfare) personnel as well as prohibitions on behavior that is discrediting to the service,” Capt. Jason Salata was cited as saying. Authorities say Schmidt did not file the mandatory paperwork to obtain clearance for such side work. Jade said in an interview earlier this week that many of Schmidt’s colleagues were aware of his work, and that no one seemed to mind.
