Famed Swiss climber Ueli Steck died in an accident on Mt. Everest on Sunday, officials confirmed. “Today morning, he had an accident on the Nuptse wall and died. It seems he slipped,” said Ang Tsering Sherpa of the Nepal Mountaineering Association. A tourism official said Steck, 40, “skidded off” a camp early in the morning. His body was recovered later Sunday and airlifted to Kathmandu. He was set to climb Mt. Everest in May, in addition to other peaks that had never been traversed in a single trip.
