Two “Black Widows” may have carried out Monday’s suicide attacks on the Moscow subways, but they were apparently taking their orders from Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov, who claimed responsibility for the attacks on Wednesday. In a message on a rebel Web site, Umarov said the suicide attacks were revenge for the killings of “poor Chechen and Ingush residents” by Russian security forces on February 11. “The war will come to your streets,” Umarov says, “and you will feel it on your own skins.” Earlier in the day, Umarov’s spokesman had denied responsibility for the attacks.
