Two suicide bombers described as children by witnesses blew themselves up in a Nigerian market on Sunday, injuring 17 people. The attack took place near the northeastern city of Maiduguri, authorities said, adding that they believed the Boko Haram terrorist group was to blame. Police Commissioner Damian Chukwu said the bombers were teenage girls, though a witness described them as two girls no older than 7 or 8, the Associated Press reported. Boko Haram has been known to use women and girls to launch suicide bomb attacks, and it’s unclear if the girls used are some of those who have been abducted by the group over the years. Sunday’s bombing came shortly after the government reopened the roads that lead to the market, which had been closed for almost two years over security concerns about bombings at the market.
