Expo 2010 Shanghai, which begins Friday, will be a demonstration of China’s emergence as a large world power. This year’s world’s fair will showcase the jumbo-size enormity of China’s capabilities in the modern world. The China Pavilion, a red upside-down pyramid, can fit 35 football fields on its floor space and is around 30 times larger than the U.S. showcase at the Expo. “The obvious conscious message is that China has arrived,” said Jose Villareal, who joined Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in salvaging the chance to have the American pavilion by raising $61 million from corporate donors. The U.S. exhibit was almost absent from the Expo due to the financial crises. For China, though, eager to impress, "money has been no object."
