China Unveils $46b Pakistan Investment

China's President Xi Jinping arrived in Pakistan Monday to unveil a $46 billion-investment into the neighboring country's infrastructure including roads, rails and power plants to be built on a commercial basis by Chinese companies over the span of the next 15 years. The network of infrastructure is expected to stretch some 1,800 miles between Pakistan's Gwadar to China's western Xinjiang region. Officials said about $15.5 billion worth of coal, wind, solar and hydro energy projects are slated to come through by 2017 to add 10,400 megawatts of energy to Pakistan's grid while a $44 million optical fibre cable between the two nations is also in the works.
