The son of one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil was killed on set before a Tuesday show in San Francisco. A statement from Cirque du Soleil on Wednesday said 42-year-old Olivier Rochette of Quebec died after being hit in the head by an aerial work platform. Rochette, a technician working on the set of the Luzia exhibition, was also the son of Gilles Ste-Croix, one of the show’s founders. Daniel Lamarre, the show’s chief executive, released a statement Wednesday saying he was “heartbroken” over the tragedy. “Olivier has always been a member of our tight family and a truly beloved colleague,” he said. Performances scheduled for Wednesday were canceled. California’s workplace safety regulator is investigating the incident.
