Coming soon: Walmart University. The retail giant, alongside Sam's Club, has partnered with the online-based American Public University to offer its employees college credits for tasks performed on the job. Employees could accrue almost half the credits needed for an associate's or bachelor's degree by performing their work duties. The program is a concerted effort to funnel workers into the corporate route and position them to become managers. Employees can get credit for courses related to ethics, commercial safety, finance fundamentals, and retail shipping and receiving. Students would, however, need to take courses outside of the job to round out a full degree. During the company's annual meeting, the head of Walmart's U.S. division told employees, "We want to provide you with more ways and faster ways to succeed with us."
