Colombia legalized medical marijuana Tuesday, following through on President Juan Manuel Santos’s November decree that the country would make the change. It had been legal to grow as many as 20 cannabis plants for personal use, and medical marijuana was already available for some. But the new policy will make it much easier to buy and sell the drug for medical reasons. Reuters reported in November that distributing, selling, and growing the drug will remain illegal. Colombia suspended the spraying of illicit crops this year, citing cancer concerns related to the herbicide that was being used.
