Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Tuesday the military will stop bombing FARC camps for one month as a part of a negotiated ceasefire to advance peace talks with rebels. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) announced the ceasefire in December, but military officials refused to halt bombing raids on the guerrillas until now. Santos also announced the launch of a peace assessment commission to assist with transitioning after a peace deal reaches a "definitive" stage. Formal peace talks with FARC rebels began in 2012 and continue in Havana, Cuba, where negotiators have reached partial deals on land reform, FARC participation in politics and ending the drug trade.
