A New Jersey congressman said Saturday that the gunman who killed a security guard at a federal building in New York City on Friday was a whistleblower who had been given a “raw deal” by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from which he was fired in 1999. U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell said that his staff had worked with gunman Kevin Downing to resolve his case, but he has no idea why Downing resorted to violence. Downing killed security guard Idrissa Camara, a father who had family visiting from Africa at the time, before turning the gun on himself.
