Conservative opposition candidate Mauricio Macri won Argentina’s presidential run-off election on Sunday as ruling-party candidate Daniel Scioli conceded defeat. With returns from three-quarters of polling stations, Macri had more than 53 percent, compared with Scioli’s 47 percent. Macri lost to Scioli in the first round of voting in October, but neither candidate won outright, forcing a run-off for the first time in the country’s history. Macri, the mayor of Buenos Aires, went into Sunday’s election with a comfortable lead in opinion polls over Scioli, the governor of the Buenos Aires province and candidate of outgoing President Cristina Fernandez.
