This dog’s life has improved considerably: a month ago he was in a collapsed septic drain, and now he’s has a new home and a new family.
Deputy James Gettings was at the site of an eviction in Fort Pierce, Florida, when his colleague, Deputy Troy Glover, heard whimpering coming from a vacant lot.
When Glover went to investigate, he found an 8-month-old puppy trapped in a pit of filthy water, standing on his hind legs to keep his head above the surface. That’s when he called Gettings for help.
“I don't know how long he had been in there. His hind legs weren't working once we pulled him out,” Gettings told TC Palm.
The deputies fished out the exhausted pooch and took him to the local Humane Society, where he was given several baths.
They tried to find the dog’s owner, but had no luck—so Gettings adopted him.
Now the puppy lives with Gettings’ family and their basset hound, Lacie.
The family has named him Puddles.
