State inspectors went to inspect poor building conditions at a day care facility in West Haven, Connecticut last week. Instead, they found 600 marijuana plants, with an estimated value of more than $1 million.
Police, who were called to the scene by the inspectors, said the six-to-ten-foot-tall plants were being grown behind a wooden fence in the day care’s backyard. City housing inspectors have since shut down the facility, which had operated there since 1995, and revoked its license.
Neighbors said they were shocked by the day care's apparent side hustle.
“I should have smelled that. That's crazy,” West Haven resident Robson Antoine told FOX61.
Police said they’ll be making arrests soon, and that whoever is arrested could face felony charges of operating a drug factory and risk of injury to a minor.
