Ohio police clarified Tuesday that they are investigating the parents of the 3-year-old boy who fell into a gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo this weekend, leading to handlers having to shoot and kill the 400-pound endangered animal who came in contact with the child. Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters initially told the press that the police and his department would investigate any possible liability for the gorilla’s death, but later said the investigation would look specifically at the parents of the child and not at the zoo itself, which is overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Deters said the prospect of criminal charges has not been ruled out.
