A LaPlace, Louisiana, father is in jail after allegedly forcing his 5-year-old son to attempt to burglarize the man’s mother. Cops say the kid was forced to break into his grandma’s house to pay for Daddy’s drug habit.
Anthony Wilson, 30, reportedly made his son squeeze past an air conditioner and through a window to get inside his grandma’s house. After failing to steal anything, the boy and the man apparently ran to a waiting getaway car. The driver? The child’s mother, Casey Ramsey, 27.
When police interviewed the victim, she said she suspected that her grandson was the one who had snuck inside and attempted to rob her house. A witness’s description matched the victim’s son, according to authorities.
After an interview with investigators, the man confessed to forcing his son to rob the man’s mother. He said he was hoping to sell the stolen property to pay for drugs.
“He told the detective during the interview that he has a history of drug addiction. He wanted to steal what he could for narcotics,” Sheriff Mike Tregre of St. John the Baptist Parish told the Times-Picayune.
Wilson and Ramsey have yet to pay a $17,000 bond.
After the failed robbery and arrest of his parents, the young boy has been placed in the temporary custody of his grandmother. Yes, the same grandmother he was allegedly forced to try to rob.
In what might be the understatement of the year, Sheriff Tregre said, “This causes irreparable damage to this child. There’s no other way to look at it.”
