Despite fears that corporations would funnel billions of dollars into super PACs when they were created two years ago, few big businesses in the U.S. are giving money to the new money pony in politics. Less than one-half of a percent of all contributions raised by the most active super PACs came from corporations, Politico found in a study. The reason for this seems to be the consumer wrath that comes with revealing a super PAC donation, like with Target’s much-jeered donation to an anti-gay-marriage candidate in Minnesota in 2010. Instead, corporations are continuing to use lobbyists and are giving money to active nonprofits to keep their donations anonymous.
