The Supreme Court will decide if California's ban on selling or renting violent video games to minors is constitutional. The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the ban because it found the law to violate the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of minors. A district court blocked the laws shortly after it was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; it also required video-game manufacturers to follow strict labeling requirements and retailers to face a $1,000 fine for each violation. Opponents of the law say video games are free expression protected by the First Amendment, that parents should decide what games their kids play, and that the games are already labeled.
