With an 8-4 victory in Thursday evening’s Game 5 in Los Angeles, the Chicago Cubs took a 3-2 National League Championship Series lead, putting themselves one win away from advancing to their first World Series since 1945. Jon Lester threw seven strong innings for the Cubs, with shortstop Addison Russell hitting the tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning. The teams move back to Chicago for Game 6, in which Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will face off against baseball’s earned-run average leader Kyle Hendricks. Should the Cubs win that game Saturday evening, they will move on to face the Cleveland Indians. Seventy-one years ago, the Cubs lost the World Series in seven games to the Detroit Tigers. The Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908.
