Carey Gabay, a lawyer for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration who was shot in the head during pre-dawn celebrations before a Brooklyn parade, died Wednesday. The first deputy counsel to the governor was removed from a respirator a day after he had been declared brain dead, his family confirmed. The 43-year-old was struck by a stray bullet while walking with his brother around 3:40 a.m., during early morning festivities before the West Indian Day Parade. Police are using facial-recognition software to identify the gunman, who officers believe is a local gang member. The suspect is described as a black man with a beard in his late teens or early twenties and was wearing a white T-shirt, black pants, and a Jamaican flag.
