The 17-year-old Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, enacted during the Clinton administration, looks set to be repealed by the Senate at 3 p.m. Saturday. The bill, sponsored by Senators Joe Lieberman, an independent, and Susan Collins, a Republican, will likely have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate before being signed into law by President Obama in fulfillment of one of his key campaign pledges. The House has already repealed the policy. Activists on both sides of the spectrum have been lobbying wavering senators, but Lieberman and Collins think they already have the votes to win. "It seems like it's going on forever. But you know, we are so close," said one gay Air Force veteran discharged in 2001.
