Severe storms, including many possible tornadoes, continued to strike many parts of the South on Wednesday, killing at least 11 people. Six people were reported dead in Mississippi, four in Alabama, and one person was reported dead in Arkansas. And more storms are on the way: the National Weather Service has issued a “particularly dangerous situation” tornado watch for parts of Arkansas, northeastern Louisiana, and the majority of Mississippi. Those warnings are issued only when there is a real chance of multiple and strong tornadoes. Generally, only two such warnings are issued per year, but this year’s total has already exceeded that number. The Storm Prediction Center has said that this April may turn out to be record breaking, with more than 300 tornadoes; the average number of tornadoes in April is 116. There were reports of 39 tornadoes on Tuesday alone.
