A Washington, D.C., transit police officer has been arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS. According to the indictment, Nicholas Young, 36, bought nearly $250 in gift cards for mobile app codes and gave them to an undercover agent, believing the technology would be used by Islamic State militants to communicate among themselves. Officials say Young had been on the FBI’s radar since 2010, and that he traveled twice to Libya in 2011 intending to help the rebellion against late dictator Muammar Gaddafi. One of Young’s meetings with undercover officers included Amine El Khalifi, who later pleaded guilty in planning to carry out a suicide bombing at the U.S. Capitol Building. Young joined the capital’s police force in 2003.
