Michelle Rhee, who’s been a central figure in the heated education debate brought on by the documentary Waiting for “Superman”, will resign her post as D.C. Schools Chancellor at the end of October. Rhee, who provoked controversy during her three-year tenure by closing dozens of schools and firing hundreds of teachers, was a close ally of D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, who lost his bid for re-election in September; she called his loss “devastating” for the district’s school children. Deputy Chancellor Kaya Henderson will replace her, and mayor-elect Vincent Gray has said he will seek a replacement who shares Rhee’s values.
