The manager of an Arizona gun range where a 9-year-old girl with an Uzi accidently shot and killed her instructor says children as young as five are taught how to shoot there. “We train kids as young as 5 years old on the use of single shot .22 rifles in our youth safety classes,” Sam Scarmardo of the Last Stop gun range said Wednesday. “In 13 years we’ve never handed out a Bandaid to anyone let alone have something like this happen” he said. Charles Vacca, 39, died Monday at a hospital after being shot by an unnamed girl on vacation with her parents from New Jersey. The girl had successfully fired the Uzi in single-shot mode several times, but lost control when it was switched into fully automatic mode. Gunfire hit the instructor who died at the hopsital. Last Stop's website requires children to be at least eight years old and accompanied by parents. A gun instructor in nearby Las Vegas said his shop has a four-foot height requirement and children have to master .22s before using fully automatic weapons.
