As outrage over President Trump’s refugee ban mounts, top Democrats are demanding to meet with the head of the Department of Homeland Security to discuss how the executive order is meant to be implemented. “As ranking members of the committees of jurisdiction for matters of immigration, border security, and admission of refugees, we write to you on an emergency basis to request a meeting to discuss the implementation and guidance concerning the Executive Order,” a letter sent to DHS Secretary John Kelly on Sunday night reads, according to Politico. The letter was signed by House Judiciary Committee ranking member John Conyers, Homeland Security ranking member Bennie Thompson, Foreign Affairs Committee ranking member Eliot Engel and Zoe Lofgren, top Democrat on Judiciary’s immigration panel, the report said. The lawmakers have stressed that the meeting is a matter of urgency, given that Trump’s order “has already led to panic and disorder, not to mention protests.”
