After reports Monday that President Trump is considering “terminating” special prosecutor Robert Mueller from the Russia investigation, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and House Speaker Paul Ryan both affirmed their support for the special counsel. Rosenstein told a Senate Appropriations subcommittee that he has seen no reason to fire Mueller from the Russia investigation. And Politico reported that Speaker Ryan said he thinks the president should let Mueller “do his job” and that he has full “confidence” in the special prosecutor’s ability to do a thorough investigation. Mueller, who was appointed by Rosenstein last month, can only be fired by the deputy attorney general, since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.
