Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury broke the WNBA career scoring record Sunday, hitting 7,494 career points, passing Tina Thompson’s mark of 7,488. Taurasi scored 19 in a 90-59 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, breaking the record in the closing seconds of the first half, after which the game was halted to celebrate the achievement. The crowd gave her a warm ovation. Taurasi took only 13 seasons to become the league’s new top scorer. Earlier this season, she passed Katie Smith’s record for three-pointers.
