A deal reportedly in the works between Disney and Univision could ignite a new round of cable wars as they bet on the growing number of English-speaking Hispanics. Disney-ABC Television Group declined to comment on the pending deal, but the companies’ goal, if all goes according to plan, is to have a 24-hour cable news channel up by the elections in November. Sources familiar with the negotiations said that for Univision, long known for its Spanish-language programming, the deal is a move to steal viewers from its competitors and a calculated wager that English-speaking Hispanics represent a growing, and lucrative, market share.
