Doctors treating ovarian cancer patients chronically underuse the most effective treatment to prolong survival. The method involves injecting chemotherapy directly into the stomach, and could add 16 months or more to a woman's life. But only half of patients in American hospitals actually receive this treatment, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Experts say this is due to difficult administering, fears about its toxicity, or are disinclined to use the generic drugs which don't bring in as much money.
