Government officials have decided to charge 84-year-old Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio with criminal contempt after he allegedly violated orders handed down by a federal court in a racial-profiling case. Prosecutor John Keller announced the charges in federal court. The charges are expected to come later this week. U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton has requested that the federal government produce an order to show cause, which will serve as a charging document for her to sign. Arpaio was made famous after he carried out aggressive immigration patrols and making prisoners allegedly wear pink underwear.
