Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, one of the founding members of the Doors, died Monday of cancer at age 74. Manzarek, who formed the group in 1965 with Jim Morrison, is behind the indelible organ riffs heard on classic tracks “Hello, I Love You,” “Light My Fire,” and “Break on Through.” After Morrison’s death in 1971, Manzarek toured for a time with the band’s remaining members before ultimately pursuing and enjoying a solo career. In 2002 he reunited with fellow Door Robby Krieger for another go at touring. “I’m just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade,” Krieger said. “Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.”
