At least 57 people were killed and more than 150 wounded in Baghdad on Saturday in a series of car bomb attacks that appeared to target festivities for Eid, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. The 12 blasts hit markets, shopping areas, and parks, a deadly end to one of bloodiest Ramadans in years. Also on Saturday, another 10 people were killed and 45 were wounded in a bombing at a busy market in the town of Tuz Khurmato, located about 105 miles from Baghdad. More than 1,000 Iraqis have been killed in July, the deadliest month in the country since 2008. Iraq’s Interior Ministry said the country faced “open war” due to sectarian divisions.
